I have moved my efforts at blogging over to blog.dynamic50.com. I will still be maintaining this blog, albeit much less often!

Hi, I’m considering a jailbreak of my iPhone 3G. Does the jailbreak render my O2 contract and it’s inclusive minutes / texts useless or does the jailbreak meerly crack the lock down on the iPhone allowing me to customize the interface etc.?
Also, how long does the complete jailbreak task take i.e. backup, load jailbreak + tools etc.?

Hi Hawkster,
It will not render any of that useless, it simply allows you to install 3rd party non-approved applications on to the phone, such as an ssh server / client or an app to use your mobile as a 3g modem for example.
It probably takes around 10 minutes to fully jailbreak, although the process has slightly changed since my last blog post and is dependant on your firmware version. I will be releasing a new article soon on how to do it for the latest version of the firmware!
